SOUTH WARNBOROUGH, HAMPSHIRE, JUNE 2016 Timber Windows & French Doors Replacement
As part of an upgrade to a detached modern property in South Warnborough, Hampshire, the existing timber windows and French doors were replaced with bespoke new joinery.
The property was originally designed to complement the style of a historic house opposite, with distinctive architectural detailing throughout. Premium Timber Windows designed, manufactured and installed bespoke timber windows and doors that preserved the property’s unique character while significantly improving thermal performance and security.
Key Project Details

The Challenge
Although relatively modern, the house was built to echo the character of the older property opposite, incorporating distinctive features that required careful attention during replacement. The existing windows needed upgrading to improve insulation, but the replacements had to retain the building’s unique identity.
A key requirement was the inclusion of gothic-style arched glazing, a defining feature of the property’s appearance. Any new windows and doors had to replicate these details precisely, ensuring the finished result looked intentional and original to the house.

Glazing & Frame Specification
The timber windows and doors were fitted with modern double glazing, delivering a substantial improvement in thermal efficiency compared to the previous units. This helped retain heat within the property while also improving security.
The timber flush casement window design provided a refined external appearance, while the double glazing remained discreet within the frames to preserve the original aesthetic. All timber elements were finished with a durable microporous paint system, protecting the joinery while allowing the timber to breathe.

The installation was completed over four days by a three-person crew, with work planned to minimise disruption. Each window and door was installed, aligned and sealed to ensure smooth operation, airtightness and consistent detailing.
Final finishing checks were carried out on site to confirm that the arched glazing details aligned correctly and that all elements operated as intended.
The Results
The completed installation delivered a noticeable improvement in comfort and security. Internally, the property is now much warmer, with improved heat retention and reduced draughts. Externally, the new windows and doors preserve the distinctive character of the house, including its gothic-style glazing features.
The upgraded joinery also provided enhanced security, as all windows and doors included multi-point locking systems, giving the homeowners peace of mind alongside improved performance.

Common Homeowner Questions
Can you match the existing details of my windows and doors?
Yes. In most cases, existing profiles, glazing patterns and architectural details can be accurately replicated.
Are flush casement windows suitable for character homes?
Yes. When designed correctly, flush casements can enhance both modern and traditionally influenced properties. These are frequently the profile of the original timber windows for most non-costal period properties with casement windows.
Do double-glazed timber windows improve security?
Yes. Modern glazing and multi-point locking systems provide drastically improved security over older units.
Will replacing my windows make my home warmer?
Yes. Double glazing and modern draught proofing significantly improve thermal performance and reduces heat loss.
Do bespoke windows require more maintenance?
No. Modern factory-applied finishes reduce maintenance while supporting long service life.
