Key Project Details

The Challenge
The existing timber casement windows & entrance door were no longer performing effectively, allowing unwanted noise into the property and contributing to heat loss. Located in a busy residential area, the homeowners were particularly keen to improve acoustic comfort whilst maintaining a style that suited their post-war home.
In addition to performance improvements, the property’s frontage needed a visual upgrade. The client wanted the new timber casement windows & entrance door to enhance kerb appeal, with interest in decorative glazing options for the entrance door, such as stained glass or leaded designs.

Glazing & Frame Specification
The timber windows and entrance door were fitted with double-glazed units, with toughened glass used where safety regulations applied. This specification significantly improved both thermal and acoustic performance, helping to reduce external noise and retain heat within the home.
The stained glass panel within the timber casement windows & entrance door added decorative interest without compromising security or performance. All timber frames were finished with a durable microporous paint system, allowing the timber to breathe whilst protecting it from moisture and UV exposure.

Installation was completed over five days by a three-person crew, with work carefully planned to minimise disruption. Each timber window and the entrance door were installed, aligned and sealed to ensure smooth operation, airtightness and a consistent appearance.
Final finishing checks were carried out on site to confirm correct operation, secure fixing and a uniform external finish across the property.
The Results
The completed installation delivered a noticeable transformation. Internally, the homeowners now benefit from warmer rooms and a quieter living environment, with significantly reduced external noise. Externally, the new windows and entrance door provide a complete visual facelift, refreshing the appearance of the home while remaining appropriate for its post-war style.
The decorative entrance door adds character and individuality, enhancing kerb appeal and creating a welcoming focal point.

Common Homeowner Questions
Can decorative glazing be added to entrance doors/windows?
Yes. Stained glass and leadlight designs are available and can be customised, though they are more expensive than standard glazing.
Do timber casement windows help reduce noise?
Yes. Modern double glazing and correct installation can significantly reduce external noise, if an even greater reduction is needed then we would utilise acoustic glass as well.
Are timber windows energy efficient?
Yes. When combined with modern double glazing and draught proofing, timber casement windows offer excellent thermal performance, even better performance than new uPVC and aluminium windows.
Is toughened glass required for doors?
Yes. Toughened glass is used where safety regulations apply, particularly for entrance doors.
Do timber windows require a lot of maintenance?
No. Modern factory-applied microporous finishes reduce maintenance and support long service life.
