Key Project Details

The Challenge
This project involved restoring a large Georgian manor house, with the aim of retaining its architectural integrity while significantly improving comfort and performance. Given the scale and prominence of the property, it was essential that all replacement and newly formed openings appeared as though they had always belonged to the building.
The client wanted a warmer home with fewer draughts, but without compromising the fine proportions and detailing typical of Georgian architecture. Achieving this balance required close coordination with the builder and careful consideration of how new timber windows and French doors would integrate with the existing structure.

Glazing & Frame Specification
The timber sash & casement windows and doors were fitted with modern double glazing, improving thermal efficiency whilst maintaining appropriate sightlines for a period property. This specification significantly reduced heat loss and draughts, contributing to a more comfortable internal environment without altering the external appearance.
Frames were finished using a durable microporous paint system, protecting the timber while allowing it to breathe. This finish supports long-term performance and helps preserve the crisp detailing associated with Georgian joinery.

Installation was completed over 15 days by a four-person crew, with work carefully planned to respect the scale and complexity of the property. Each window and door was installed, aligned and sealed to ensure smooth operation, airtightness and visual consistency.
Final finishing included detailed checks across all elevations to confirm correct proportions, clean junctions and a cohesive appearance that sat comfortably within the restored façade.
The Results
The completed installation transformed the comfort and usability of the manor house. Internally, the client now benefits from warmer rooms and significantly fewer draughts, while externally the property retains all of its original period charm.
The new timber sash & casement windows and French doors look entirely at home within the building, enhancing both the architecture and the surrounding landscape. Modern multi-point locking systems and glazing provide improved security and efficiency without detracting from the historic character of the property.
