FARNHAM, SURREY JUNE 2018 Casement Windows & French Doors
As part of a single-storey side and rear extension, timber casement windows and French doors were installed to enhance thermal performance while matching the character of a detached Edwardian home.
The extension required new windows and doors that would match the windows in the existing house aesthetically while meeting modern standards for thermal performance and security. Premium Timber Windows designed, manufactured and installed bespoke timber windows that integrated seamlessly into the original property.
Key Project Details

The Challenge
This project formed part of a single-storey side and rear extension to an Edwardian property located within a conservation area. The main challenge was to ensure the new windows and doors looked as though they had always existed in the house, maintaining consistency with the original architecture.
At the same time, the client wanted the extension to perform to modern standards, providing a warmer, more comfortable, secure space than the original construction. Any new joinery had to balance heritage sensitivity with improved insulation, airtightness and modern locking solutions.

Glazing & Frame Specification
The windows and doors were fitted with modern double glazing, significantly improving thermal efficiency compared to older single-glazed units. This significantly reduced heat loss and help maintain a comfortable internal temperature within the new extension. As well as multipoint locking systems on all windows and doors, making the new section significantly more secure.
Timber frames were finished using a durable microporous paint system. This allows the timber to breathe while protecting it from moisture and UV exposure, supporting long service life with straightforward maintenance.

Installation was completed over three days by a two-person crew, with work carefully planned to minimise disruption. Each window and door was installed, aligned and sealed to ensure smooth operation, airtightness and visual consistency.
Final finishing checks were carried out on site to confirm that there were no issues with the product or the installation before the installation team left at the end of the project.
The Results
The completed installation delivered an extension that matches the rest of the house visually while offering significantly improved thermal performance and security. Internally, the new space is warmer and more comfortable, making it suitable for year-round use.
Externally, the timber casement windows and French doors sit comfortably alongside the original Edwardian features, preserving the character of the property within its conservation setting.
